David and I had a rough relationship. Starting in Jr. High (Central) we went around and around. He liked to pick on me and I was determined to shovel it back at him. By the time we graduated from High School we more or less tolerated each other and there were times that I realized he was really a decent fellow. I wish, now, that I had made more of an effort to know him.
David, you etched a permanent soft spot in my heart our senior year. When I returned to school very late in the year, we sat side by side in a class in that old,old building there and talked quite a bit every day. I will never in my life forget how sincere and sweet you were to me at a time in my life when I didn't think anyone ever would be. I admit that at the beginning of those many conversations, I was suspicious that you might just be fishing for information, but as time went by I saw into your eyes a genuine concern. And that touched me deeply. Then 5 years later after graduation, when we ran into each other at the BA Goldies at 91st/Elm...and you had to holler at me about 6 times to get my attention (I had no idea who you were!!!)I will never forget how floored I was to see you, and to this day regret not having thought to stop and thank you for being so nice to me. You will be sorely missed forever. I hope to see you again one day when I get to go home too.
